Waistcoats For Men - A Timeless Classic Or a Boring Accessory?

Men don't tend to wear waistcoats these days which is a great shame as they are a wonderful fashion item. The glorious waistcoat should be resurrected as nowadays men do not tend to wear them except when they attend an evening function or a wedding!

Some guys can wear cardigans and they can look super hot especially if their name is Brad Pitt so why not the humble waistcoat? After all they can also be functional, particularly in the winter when a guy can keep the chill from his tummy and his back in the most elegant of manners. Even boring old bankers can still look professional with a dull grey pinstripe on the front visible part of the waistcoat while on the back they can wear an outrageously exotic silken fabric for their closest of colleagues and their partners to see. Let them show that the childish flair they once had is still there.

It is becoming very fashionable to wear a waistcoat loose with an old shirt (preferably white, with it's sleeves rolled up and a baggy pair of jeans. The look is one of the casual artistic type or the classics scholar racing to his next lesson down a dusty Oxford street. When done well it gives a quirky traditional look which is quite appealing. I would tend to wear a duller front and back to a waistcoat on these occasions! Never, ever wear the waistcoat done up with jeans unless you want to look like Coco the Clown as it is a major fashion No, No!

Of course you could try the more outlandish of fabrics to really wow your audience as some celebrities do - but make sure that you have the figure and the style to carry it off as otherwise you may achieve a look that is less than complimentary and may be one that gets you noticed in a most unflattering manner!

Why do many professional men leave the bottom button of a waistcoat undone?

The custom of leaving the bottom button undone was adopted at the beginning of the twentieth century by imitators of the portly King Edward VII of England, whose tailors apparently could not keep up with his appetite. It is observed only in the single-breasted instance of the garment.
